Airwaves open across Andover
THE airwaves over North West Hampshire burst into life this week as the area's new radio station Andover Sound started to broadcast test transmissions on 106.4fm.
Anyone who now tunes into the frequency will hear the broadcasts. They feature a mix of the type of music the station will play and information about its full launch on Bank Holiday Monday on 26 May.
The first record played was 1973 by James Blunt, who grew up in St Mary Bourne.
Managing director Ian Axton said: "To finally hear 106.4fm come to life was a fantastic moment.
"People have been campaigning for the station for years, and our team have been working round the clock in the past few months to get it on air.
"These test transmissions are a major step towards our full launch."
Listeners are being asked to email in and say how far the new signal goes.
You can tune in to 106.4 FM, or by listening online at www.andoversound.com

Been listening this week and am really enjoying the nice mix of music and the fact that the station sounds proud of serving this area - which for too long has been neglected.
Am genuinely looking forward to hear what "Andover Sound" has to say about the area when it launches.
Good luck - I am sure you will be a great success.

It's good that Andover has it's own station (at last) but the signal seems to interfere every other station from 104 to 107fm! Somewhat depletes the choice for people who DON'T want to listen to Andover Sound.

Local radio is such a bore. Only the brain dead listen to it these days. Hopefully the new Andover station will be better than average but it is a medium in decline. I think Alan Partridge gave it the last rites with his 'Smashie and Nicey' routine which was very funny and so close to the truth. Never mind at least it is an Andover station run by Andover people (er... Is it, no probably not).
Listening to James blunt a 'fantastic moment' Mr Axton sounds like a real comedy act... I think I might tune in after all. (James Blunt music = the sound of a cat suffering to my ears)

Belinda sounds a bit bitter! Radio can be good if people are allowed to actually be people. They have signed someone who was a national presenter and the people working at the station are from Andover - what more would you want? Apart from some sugar to soothe your bitterness?

Jill - there's nothing wrong with my radio - I can still pick up all the stations round 104-6.
