May opening for cinema
 |
| The new Asda store and Reel Cinema development site. |
ANDOVER'S eagerly awaited new four-screen cinema will open its doors to the public on 14 May - and the first film on screen is expected to be the new Indiana Jones film.
The managing director of Reel Cinemas, Mr KC Suri, said the new venture will offer the public what they want to see in a comfortable and hospitable environment.
His firm opened its first cinema as recently as 2001 and now runs 15 but he is particularly excited about the Andover venture with its elevated position atop the ASDA supermarket.
"It offers a cinema which will be unique in the UK," he said on a visit to the site.
"In the day time there are views across to the river.
"At night there are views of the skyline.
"It will be a fantastic environment to relax and meet in before watching a movie.
"I fell in love with the view when I saw it.
"We will offer the complete cinema experience giving a wide choice of movies and times. There won't be just one show per day.
"There will also be a cinema club, a senior citizens club, family night, from time to time film premiers and we also want to work with local charities."
Reel also aims to keep a tidy house as its mission statement is customer service and cleanliness'.
"It is something important to us," added Mr Suri.
While the company has applied for a liquor licence Mr Suri said the drinks facility would not in any way become a drop-in bar.
But he said he needed to be able to offer customers the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine or a bottle of beer with a film.
The new venture will bring between 25 and 30 part-time and full-time jobs to the town.
CVs can be sent to Reel Cinemas, 7 Cattle Market, Loughborough.

We do not think that it is appropriate for a cinema to have an alcohol licence.

"Views of the Skyline" ???
Where are they building this cinema again? Manhattan?
Maybe someone has parked a Nissan Skyline in Sainsbury's car park

Anyone wearing those rose tinted glasses definately won't get to see any film.
Skyline - Andover??? What is this person on? River???? Fell in love with the view?? Alcohol at a cinema??? I can now see why we have had to go so long without a cinema. My guess is this one won't last either unless people come down to earth....

Please take a leaf out of Basingstokes book, now there is a fantastic place to meet and relax before a movie and what a choice of restaurants. Asda is not a fantastic place to meet up! Not just one viewing a day - does that mean two then? WOW! I can see Basingstoke is still going to be the favourite option here. What a huge shame.

As with any development in Andover, the usual negative views are the loudest. I for one welcome the choice to watch a film in Andover again. I think I will wait and see, before I jump on the doom and gloom wagon.

Of course there's a skyline - the bit between the earth and the sky.

What a bunch of moaners, most of this lot are!
Andover, not that bad a place to live or they would have all moved.
Maybe they should...
I for one think it is great for the whole community, and at night when the town is all lit-up I am sure it will look great. Especially on a hot summers night when it's warm and you have a nice cold beer in your hand, relaxing and taking in the sunset before you watch the latest feature.
All sounds great to me...

why would I need to drink to watch a film???? this idea conjures up visions of drunks in the cinema ruining the films for the sober majority who only want to have a night out without being confronted by mindless drunken yobs

Do you work for the Daily Mail Mike? People like you will never be happy until all teenagers are seen and not heard. It is a small MINORITY of Andover youngsters that are loutish, not the majority.
We now have a great new Supermarket with loads of choice, so making Tesco drop its prices. And soon we will have a cinema again.
I live right opposite ASDA and for one am happy its here.
If you dislike Andover nightlife so much then why dont you move somewhere else and let the rest of us enjoy it in peace.

Now we've lost the prospect of a Newbury Cinema (to the Romans) I welcome the one in Andover - Basingstoke it just too far for those of us out in the sticks (although I love the seating at the Vue Cinemas -hope they will be as comfortable and 'raked' at Reel) not sure about the alcohol though - just go to the pub after the film.

I hope this is going to be great, but I suspect it wont.... only 4 screens hints at only major features, not the kinds of alternative flicks that interest me.
And the alcohol thing wont be a big deal.. its pretty cool to be able to have a beer and chill at a feature - its always been done at the theatre, including the lights. And drinks will surely be too expensive for anyone to get trolleyed and be a 'yob'? Not that i think anyone would anyway. Lets face it, there's enough places for people to be drunk yobs in andover, I doubt this place will make it worse.
And we all know the view thing is rubbish... the view from asda is awful... roundabouts and car parks.
Anyway, roll on cinema... I am at least hopeful.

Deary me - what a load of old moaners. Cannot wait for it to open and I (for one) can only watch one film at a time - so 4 screens will suit me too. Happy and smiling, maybe others should cheer up!

I have always hated the fact that in order to enjoy a beer with a movie at the cinema I have always had to sneak it in with me. I welcome a policy whereby I am permitted to have my preferred drink of choice (lets hope there is at least one decent ale and not just poor quality lagers and alcopops). I look forward to this cinema opening and hope that it proves to be more successful and of a higher standard than the doubters and moaners are pessimistically expecting.

It's great that a cinema is coming back to Andover, but what's with the alcohol licence, surely they are asking for trouble with that one...

We are so looking forward to be able to go to a cinema in Andover, it is quite a trek to Basingstoke each time. At least now we can enjoy a film with a drink if you want and maybe continue the night out in town and meet up with friends, brilliant. I can't believe that so many people can be so negative. All I can say is get a life, there are more things to moan about.

There are plenty of smaller and independent cinema's that have always had alcohol licences (and they show the blockbusters) and I've never noticed it causing a problem. It'll be fine!

Can't wait for the cinema!
But when is it opening? The only info I can find says 14th May but that's today and I have heard nothing.
